Eymards cave Lans-en-Vercors

The Eymards cave is located tin Lans en Vercors territory on the right side of the road that goes up to the Val d'Autrans. In the heart of the Vercors massif, the exploitation of an old open pit quarry is at the origin of the discovery of this cavity.

At the entrance of the quarry a flat plot allows easy parking as well as a perfect area for equipment and various explanations regarding the exit.

The Eymards cave is a perfect cavity for the introduction to vertical and technical caving and also an excellent beginning to consider more sporting outings like crossing the Dent de Crolles.

Right after the entrance a all-four and crawling progression leads to the top of a room. A first 20 ft high abseiling allows a good learning handling of the gear and the abseiling technics. From the bottom of this room, a lift leads to the start of a nice 94 ft high well where a high start that increases the sensations! (belay possible during abseiling) At the base of this well several routes are possible according to the schedule and wishes of each of you.

One of the routes leads after a climb to the « Salle du Mont Blanc » nicely concretioned with stalagmites, stalagtites, draperies and calcite flows. A 33 ft high abseil leads to the 94 ft high well.

To regain daylight two solutions: A 94 ft high direct ascent of the well in caving climbing technics (depending on the number of participants and especially on their physical conditions). An easier ascent but physical via a succession of climbs equipped with handrails ropes. Then don’t forget the rise of the 20 ft high jump to reach the exit!
